In 2018, the square at the intersection of Małeckiego, Łukaszewicza and Graniczna Streets officially received a new name: Eki z Małeki Square. The name of the square refers to the colloquial name of Małeckiego Street, which was used especially in the 1950s when a branch of the bikinis subculture functioned in Poznań. In St. Lazarus district, the most famous was Eka z Małeka, whose members took an active part in the events of June 1956 in Poznań.
For years, the vicinity of the square enjoyed a disgraceful opinion of a dangerous place among some Poznań residents, mainly due to the annual riots between the locals and the police, which took place on New Year's Eve, often resulting in arrests. The situation slowly began to change, as a result of activities carried out by the Open Culture Zone Initiative. Together with many involved residents of St. Lazarus district, partners, representatives of the City and the Housing Estate Council, the Square was participatively renovated and cultural, educational and animation activities began to take place there, directed and co-created by the residents
